         The company Ausencio Leon Ruiz y Sucesores has its origins since 1890. Don Fortino Leon B., a native of Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, started the  Mezcal production for family consumption and by the early twentieth century his drink was already known in the surrounding villages because of the caring towards the agave selection and  the drafting process. But the outbreak of the revolution in 1910 interrupted this activity almost completely.
